Some of the world's most iconic film locations aren't purpose-built sets – they're very real places you can visit.
According to a report by The Mirror, based on internet and social media research, Skopelos is one of the Top 10 most iconic film locations in the world thanks to the film adaptation of the musical "Mamma Mia."
At the top of the list are areas in New Zealand, Scotland, England, the USA, and Ireland where the filming of The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Shining by Steven King, The King's Speech, Sleepless in Seattle, Twilight, Star Wars, and Joker took place.
The island of Skopelos is ranked 10th for the musical Mamma Mia film adaptation.
"On the more glamorous end of the spectrum is Skopelos, the Greek island which was used as the location of the Abba inspired Mamma Mia!" the article states.
"Fans of the Swedish mega-group and of Pierce Brosnan can sign themselves up for a tour of the beautiful island and some of the particularly scenic spots that appear in the film," the article added.
According to the survey, the destination performs exceptionally well on Instagram hashtags, with 220,000 views, and wows travellers with its Mamma Mia-themed tours.
It is noted that for the same period, Skopelos and the popular music, dance and culinary show "Mamma Mia! The Party were voted the second-best suggestion for entertaining Londoners in winter among 20 original ideas for entertainment.
