Eurostat: Greece Ranks Among Lowest in EU for Graduate Employment in 2023

In 2023, only 72.3% of recent graduates in Greece were employed, placing the country among the lowest in the European Union for graduate employment rates.

This figure is significantly below the EU average of 83.5%, which marked a 1.1 percentage point increase from the previous year.

Recent graduates are defined as individuals aged 20-34 who have completed their studies within the last 1 to 3 years at either medium or tertiary education levels. Across the EU, graduate employment has generally improved over the past decade, climbing from 74.3% in 2013. However, Greece’s graduate employment rate remains a concern, lagging behind most other EU nations.

EU1 1In comparison, Malta reported the highest employment rate for recent graduates at 95.8%, followed by the Netherlands (93.2%) and Germany (91.5%). Alongside Italy and Romania, Greece remains one of the few EU countries where the employment rate for recent graduates is below 75%.
