This new digital unit, powered by artificial intelligence, will analyse extensive tax data pools, drawing from digital tax systems, social media, and online platforms to identify undeclared income.
The initiative is designed to work alongside existing tools of the tax administration, including electronic books (myDATA), the appodixi application, and the integration of POS systems with cash registers. Additionally, citizen complaint platforms will be utilised to enhance efforts in detecting unreported income and unpaid taxes.
The AI-driven cross-checks will focus on several key areas:
- Monitoring property owners engaged in short-term rentals.
- Identifying suspicious transactions using advanced statistical methods.
- Exposing undeclared real estate transactions through available data.
- Leveraging electronic books (myDATA) to track zero VAT declarations.
- Cross-referencing declared hotel revenues with data from the Booking platform.
- Investigating taxpayer transaction records from foreign payment services.
The new tool is expected to significantly strengthen AADE's ability to uncover hidden income and enforce tax compliance across Greece.
