Athens Mayor Haris Doukas has declared today a historic milestone for both Panathinaikos and the city, as the building permit for the Athenian football team’s new stadium in Votanikos has been officially issued.

This development marks a significant leap forward in the long-awaited double redevelopment project.

“It is a historic day for Panathinaikos and Athens with the issuance of the building permit for the new stadium,” said Mayor Doukas. He emphasised the “well-coordinated effort” that led to this achievement, noting the unprecedented pace of progress over the past eight months. “I want to extend my sincere thanks to all the services and co-responsible bodies who contributed their utmost to achieve these immediate results,” he added.

The mayor reiterated the city’s commitment to both Panathinaikos fans and local residents, highlighting that the new stadium will not only benefit the team but also contribute to the broader revitalisation of the Votanikos area.

According to the Athens municipality, a dedicated working group, led by the mayor and including the vice-mayor of Infrastructure, the general secretary of the municipality, and other involved bodies, played a crucial role in coordinating efforts that culminated in today’s approval.
