Greek authorities have issued a high-level security alert following a terrorist attack in Solingen, Germany, that left three people dead.
The attack, which took place at a local festival, has prompted an urgent response from the Greek Police, focusing on bolstering security around potential terrorist targets across the country.
According to a report by journalist Mina Karamitrou on OPEN’s main newscast, the alert instructs law enforcement to intensify protection measures for key locations, particularly those connected to Israeli interests. These include the Israeli Embassy and Consulate, Jewish synagogues, and areas frequently visited by Israeli tourists. The document emphasizes the need for heightened vigilance and strict security protocols at these sites, including comprehensive searches conducted by mixed teams with bomb detection dogs. Officers are also instructed to maintain a 24-hour presence at these locations to monitor for any suspicious activity.
In addition to the Anti-Terrorist Service and National Security Service, all entry points into Greece, such as the Evros border and the identification centers on the islands, are on high alert to prevent any potential threats from entering the country.

The heightened security measures come in the wake of the Solingen attack, where the suspected perpetrator, 26-year-old Isa Al H., a Syrian national, surrendered to German authorities. According to reports, Isa Al H., who had been living in Germany since December 2022, carried out the knife attack that also injured five others. The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attack, citing it as “revenge for Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere.”
The Greek government is taking no chances in the wake of this tragic event, aiming to ensure the safety of all potential targets within its borders.
