Greek Supreme Court Slams Online Media for 'Judgment' in Mykonos Rape Case

The Greek Supreme Court and the Chief Prosecutor's Office have issued a scathing rebuke of online media outlets that prematurely denounced the release of three Pakistani nationals accused of raping a foreign tourist on the island of Mykonos.

In a joint statement, the two institutions criticized the "very frequent and illegal tactic" of selective leaks from case files, particularly those in the preliminary investigation stage. These leaks, they argued, are used to "create a sense of insecurity among citizens, insult the effectiveness of Greek justice, and discredit Greece."

The case in question involved a woman who accused three Pakistani men of rape. However, videos in the case file reportedly proved that the sexual encounter was consensual, leading to their release.

The Supreme Court and Prosecutor's Office emphasized that only judges and prosecutors are qualified to make judgments in legal cases. They urged the self-appointed "judges" and "prosecutors" in the media to respect the rule of law and refrain from spreading misinformation.
