This was discussed during a meeting in Athens between Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Greek Health Tourism Council (Elitour) President George Patoulis.
Patoulis highlighted Elitour’s ongoing efforts to position Greece as a premier global destination for health and wellness tourism. Among the proposals he presented were the establishment of primary health units in certified luxury hotels, the creation of a Registry of Health & Wellness Tourism Providers, and the expansion of licensing for Day Care Units and other medical specialties.
A key topic was the proposed introduction of a Medical Visa (Medi Visa), a short-term visa specifically for those seeking medical treatment in Greece. Patoulis mentioned that he had already discussed this initiative with Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis and received assurance from Minister Georgiadis that the proposal is likely to be approved soon.
Patoulis also invited Minister Georgiadis to attend the 8th Panhellenic Congress of Thermal Medicine, set for September 21-22 at the National Research Foundation.
