Greek Prescription Drug Prices Surge, Some Up by 448%

Greek consumers are experiencing significant price hikes on over 800 prescription medications, with some prices soaring as much as 448%, according to Ta Nea. Around 100 drugs have seen a twofold increase in cost. Notably, a dermatological antibiotic containing tyrothricin has risen from €0.96 to €5.26, marking a 448% jump.

As reported by The Press Project on August 27, 2024, at 19:56:58, the updated pricing list, effective August 26, reveals substantial increases for 843 medications. Approximately 700 of these drugs now cost over 10% more, and 570 have risen by at least 20%. Most price rises range between €1 and €5.

Some of the most significant price hikes include:

  • Stedon: €2.28 to €9.95
  • Amoxil: €3.58 to €4.81
  • Augmentin: €5.94 to €7.48
  • Zovirax: €6.43 to €8.45
  • Ceclor: €4.49 to €7.06
  • Voltaren: €1.51 to €3.32
  • Tavor: €1.00 to €2.19
  • Lasix: €1.96 to €2.70
  • Apotel: €3.85 to €5.61
  • Salospir: €1.17 to €2.08

These price hikes are expected to increase the financial strain on patients, especially those needing long-term medications. The adjustments have been implemented following a recent ministerial decision, with the new pricing coming into effect from August 26.
