September Sports Tourism Events in Greece Spotlight Scenic Destinations

This September, Greece will host a series of sports tourism events, combining athletic challenges with the country’s stunning landscapes.

From golf tournaments in Messinia to swimming and running events in Salamina and Ioannina, these activities offer sports enthusiasts the opportunity to hone their skills while exploring some of Greece’s most picturesque regions.

Supported by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), these events aim to showcase the unique tourism attractions of each location, promoting Greece as a premier destination for sports tourism.

Greek Maritime Golf Event
The prestigious Greek Maritime Golf Event will return for its tenth edition at Costa Navarino in Messinia, Peloponnese, from September 5 to 8. The tournament will feature 80 participants, including top international shipping executives, competing on two world-class courses: The Hills Course and the International Olympic Academy Golf Course. Both courses are set against the historic backdrop of the Bay of Navarino and the port of Pylos.

Salamis Go 2024: Swim, Fun, Run
On September 8, Salamina Island in Attica will host the second annual “Salamis Go 2024: Swim, Fun, Run.” The event offers open-water swimming races of 750 metres, 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km at Psili Ammos beach, as well as 5 km and 10 km running races. A 750-metre race for children will also be featured, providing a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

Ioannina Lake Run
From September 21 to 22, the Ioannina Lake Run will take place around the scenic Lake Pamvotida. The event includes 5 km, 10 km, and 30 km running races, as well as a 30 km walking race. Additional activities include races for mothers and children, family routes, and a 1000-meter course for runners with disabilities. Since its inception in 2007, the Ioannina Lake Run has aimed to promote tourism in the region and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the lake’s natural environment.

These events, supported by the GNTO, are part of a broader effort to position Greece as an ideal destination for sports enthusiasts and travellers seeking both adventure and natural beauty.
