Nine Greek Islands Undergo Airport Upgrades

British travellers seeking winter sun in Greece have been cautioned about potential disruptions to flights as a result of major redevelopment projects at nine airports across the country.

Fraport Greece, the operator of 14 Greek regional airports, including several popular with British tourists, is undertaking a €440 million (£371 million) investment program to upgrade the facilities.

The company has announced the latest phase of these redevelopment works and has warned passengers about upcoming airport closures.

The affected airports and their closure periods are:

  1. Samos (SMI): 05 November 2024 – 25 November 2024
  2. Mytilini (MJT): Every Tuesday, 00:01* – 23:59*, from 15 November 2024 to 25 March 2025
  3. Corfu (CFU): 18 November 2024 – 08 December 2024 & 13 January 2025 – 31 January 2025
  4. Kefalonia (EFL): 25 November 2024 – 15 December 2024
  5. Rhodes (RHO): Every Tuesday, 18:00* – Thursday 17:59*, from 10 December 2024 to 31 January 2025
  6. Santorini (JTR): 08 January 2025 – 23 January 2025
  7. Kavala (KVA): 10 January 2025 – 30 January 2025
  8. Mykonos (JMK): 25 January 2025 – 15 February 2025
  9. Zakynthos (ZTH): 15 February 2025 – 05 March 2025

Santorini and Mykonos airports are among the busiest in Greece, handling over 1 million and 2.5 million passengers per year, respectively. These airports are popular with British tourists, especially during the peak summer season.

Travellers are advised to check their flight schedules and plan accordingly to avoid any disruptions during their trips to these Greek islands.
