Alonnisos has been named one of the top 10 "small paradises" of the Mediterranean by the popular Italian website, thewom.it, which attracts millions of visitors each month.
The website, known for its focus on sustainability and niche tourism, conducted a study to identify Mediterranean islands with untouched natural environments, free from over-tourism and overpopulation.
Among destinations from Croatia, Turkey, Spain, and Greece, Alonnisos stands out as "the most peaceful and nature-friendly of the Sporades islands," according to thewom.it. The site highlights Alonnisos' extensive pristine coastline and its marine park, where visitors can experience unique diving opportunities and encounter rare species of marine life.
The Municipality of Alonnisos, in collaboration with tourism boards and partners, continues to promote the island internationally, targeting key markets such as Italy, the UK, France, Scandinavia, and Germany. Their efforts aim to attract travellers seeking authentic experiences, activities, and quality services in a natural and exotic setting.
"At a time when mass tourism dominates, Alonnisos stands out for its natural charm. More travelers are looking for holidays that offer quality, nature, and authenticity, and Alonnisos is becoming a popular choice," said Diogenes Theodorou, chairman of the Municipality of Alonnisos Tourism Committee.
