The 5 Best Greek Islands To Enjoy In September

These five Greek islands are ideal for those who associate vacations with exploration, tranquillity, and crystal-clear waters and want to enjoy the last days of the heat after the summer.

Skiathos

If you’ve visited in the summer and loved it, you’ll adore it in the fall. The lush landscape, fantastic beaches, and charming town are even more impressive as the crowds dwindle. You’ll find magical scenery on beaches like Koukounaries, Lalaria, and more.

You can stroll through the town’s narrow streets, enjoy coffee at Bourtzi with a sea view, or hike one of the island’s 25 marked trails through lush green landscapes.

Skiathos also offers water sports and cultural visits to sites like the house of Alexandros Papadiamantis.

Skopelos

This green island is stunning in September. Skopelos Town, Agnontas, Panormos, and other villages offer unique charm. The beaches are beautiful, with crystal-clear waters at Hovolo and Ftelia.

Explore the town’s alleys and the Venetian Castle, or hike scenic paths through lush nature. Visit the monasteries or dive to see the shipwreck “Christoforos.”

Kythnos

Just two hours from Athens, Kythnos is a quiet, authentic island. In September, the crowds thin out, making it perfect for hiking to hidden beaches like Kolona, Loutra, and Apokrousi.

Explore the ancient capital, Bryokastro, and the medieval Castle of Oria. Visit the island’s caves and enjoy the thermal springs and monastic sites.

Serifos

Serifos has become a trendy destination, but it returns to a more relaxed pace in September. Explore its stunning beaches, such as Ganema and Livadakia, historical mining remnants, and charming villages, like Chora.

Hike the old trails or visit the castle with spectacular views.

The island is perfect for a blend of relaxation and exploration.

Kea

Part of the Cyclades but with a unique character, Kea features beautiful homes with tiled roofs and medieval alleyways in its capital, Ioulida.

Visit ancient sites like Karthea and enjoy stunning beaches like Koundouros. Kea also offers excellent diving spots, including shipwrecks and a WWII plane.

Whether you prefer luxurious stays or simple tavernas, Kea has something for everyone.
