ATHENS – Members of the main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance’s Central Committee concluded in-person voting on Sunday on a censure motion against party leader Stefanos Kasselakis. This marks the first phase of a two-part voting process.

The censure motion, submitted on Saturday by 100 Central Committee members, was the focus of the in-person voting session held at the downtown Athens hotel hosting the Committee’s two-day meeting. Members present cast their votes throughout the day.

Attention now turns to the second phase, where Central Committee members who were unable to attend the in-person session will have the opportunity to cast their votes by phone. Once this phone-voting phase is complete, all votes will be tallied.

The censure motion represents a significant internal challenge to Kasselakis’s leadership. For the motion to pass, it requires a simple majority: approval from at least 50% plus one of the total 295 committee members, meaning 148 votes are needed.

The results of the vote, expected in the coming days, are being closely watched as they will determine whether Kasselakis maintains his position as leader of SYRIZA.
