Greece has achieved a remarkable milestone, ranking second in the world for electricity production through photovoltaics, according to the latest annual report by climate think tank Ember.

In 2023, photovoltaics generated 19% of Greece's electricity, trailing only Chile.

The report highlights Greece's strong performance in photovoltaic energy, placing it fourth globally in per capita energy production from photovoltaics with 899 kilowatt-hours per year. Australia leads this category with 1,810 kWh, followed by the Netherlands with 1,208 kWh, and Spain with 949 kWh.

Additionally, Greece has seen a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, down 57% since 2007. This decline is attributed to a combination of economic factors and a shift towards renewable energy sources, along with a decrease in lignite use.

Notably, Greece ranks first globally in photovoltaic production among countries with more typical sunlight conditions, excluding those with extreme sunshine like Australia and Chile.
