Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York this month during the UN General Assembly. The talks will focus on Middle Eastern issues and their investment partnership. Mitsotakis will also meet Kuwait’s Emir and attend a trilateral meeting with Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt. Additionally, he will discuss Greek-Turkish relations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
This high-profile meeting highlights the strong collaboration between Greece and Israel, particularly in investment and regional security, amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Turkey.
The Greek government is focused on maintaining a strategic balance in the volatile Middle East, fostering strong relations with key players such as Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Mitsotakis will also hold talks with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and participate in a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt.
Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis is expected to meet with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel Aaty, in New York. The schedules of both Mitsotakis and Gerapetritis may shift as new meetings are arranged or adjusted.
Additionally, Mitsotakis is anticipated to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which is seen as a critical moment for Greek-Turkish relations. Meanwhile, Turkey faces challenges in its Middle Eastern diplomacy, with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's recent speech at the Arab League Foreign Ministers Council reportedly met with some controversy, as the Syrian delegation left before his address.
