Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis addressed ongoing criticism of Greece's national health system during a press conference on Wednesday, accusing political opponents and left-leaning trade unionists of spreading misinformation for political purposes.

Georgiadis acknowledged that while some issues exist within the system, which serves 80,000 people daily and 25 million annually, much of the criticism is unfounded.

The minister emphasised that any critiques should be based on real data, not propaganda. He reassured the public that both Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Ministry of Health are committed to improving public healthcare.

Georgiadis also announced a new program offering free afternoon surgeries for citizens unable to afford the cost, aimed at helping the 37,000 people currently on waiting lists for more than four months. The program, pending final EU approval of Recovery Fund resources, will require €51 million, which has already been earmarked. The decision is expected by the end of the year.
