A chilling video captures the moment a surfer encounters a dead body off the coast of the Greek island of Kos. The footage shows the surfer, Dionisis Baltsis, kite surfing near Lambi Beach when he makes the grim discovery just feet from the shore, while tourists looked on in shock.
Baltsis, who was on the water with a friend, described the body as being clothed in typical surf attire, including a lycra T-shirt and quick-drying pants. He noted that the man, who appeared to be a seasoned water sports enthusiast, had likely been in the water for several days.
The Greek Coast Guard and an ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after Baltsis reported the discovery. The body, which has not yet been identified, was found unusually close to the shore, around 100 meters from the beach. Authorities estimate the body has been in the water for over a week.
In a statement to Greek broadcaster Mega, Baltsis described the shock of finding the body and pointed out its proximity to an army post. He remarked on the unusual and unsettling nature of the discovery, noting that it was rare to see a dead body in the sea.
This incident follows other recent tragic events, including the death of a British holidaymaker found off a remote South African beach and a body recovered in the search for a British teenager lost at sea near The Hague.
