PAOK FC has officially announced the signing of Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren, bolstering their defensive line just before the close of the transfer window.

Under the headline "Dejan is here," the Greek club confirmed that the 35-year-old has signed a two-year contract, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026. Lovren, who chose the number 6 jersey, joins PAOK after their recent 0-0 draw against Panathinaikos in the Super League.

Who is Dejan Lovren?

Born in Zenica, Bosnia, Lovren moved to Croatia at the age of five after his family was displaced during the Yugoslav war. He began his football journey at Dynamo Zagreb's academy at 14, making his professional debut in 2006. After a brief loan spell with Inter Zapresic, he returned to Dynamo, winning two league titles and a cup while making 57 appearances.

At 21, Lovren secured his first major transfer, joining Lyon in 2010, where he played 102 matches, scoring three goals and winning the French Cup in 2011-12.

Move to England and Success at Liverpool

Lovren moved to the Premier League in 2013, first joining Southampton and later Liverpool, where he spent six seasons. At Liverpool, he made 185 appearances, netting eight goals, and played a key role in the club's 2019 Champions League triumph, as well as their 2019 UEFA Super Cup and 2019-20 Premier League title.

Further Career and Return to Lyon

In 2020, Lovren transferred to Zenit St. Petersburg, making 63 appearances and winning three league titles and cups in Russia. He returned to Lyon for the 2023-24 season before signing with PAOK.

International Career

A vital member of Croatia's national team, Lovren played a significant role in the squad that reached the 2018 FIFA World Cup final.

Now, as he joins PAOK, Lovren brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record at the highest levels of European football.
