President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, officially inaugurated the Gaitis-Simossi Museum on the island of Ios in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.
The president hailed the museum as "a gift to the youth, a jewel for Ios, and a contribution to all Greeks."
The museum honours the legacy of two renowned artists, Giorgos Gaitis and Gabriella Simossi, whose works reflect a shared vision of the world despite their distinct artistic journeys. "The two artists meet, from different paths, in a mutual vision of the world," Sakellaropoulou remarked. "They co-exist here, partners in life and art, in this beautiful museum designed by their daughter, Loretta Gaiti."
She emphasised that the creation of the museum was a "labour of love," highlighting the daughter’s dedication to preserving her parents’ artistic heritage with the support of the Municipality of Ios and the Ministry of Culture. Sakellaropoulou described the project as a "moral obligation" to ensure their work continues to inspire future generations.
