Athens: 4 vegan bakeries for autumn

vegan Little Darling

The trend for vegan products has been developing for some years now, with more and more consumers looking to all corners of the Greek capital for tasty products without raw animal materials.

Vegan sweets have evolved to such an extent in Athens that more and more bakeries and pastry shops offer gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan creations on their menus.

Here are four of the best that can be found in the Greek capital.

1. «Holy Llama»

Holy Llama

Holy Llama first opened in an alley in Ymittos and immediately gained the favour of the Athenians. It was one of the first vegan bakeries and pastry shops.

The store on Kydonion Street operates only for takeaway, while the main location is on Nikis Street.

In a space that exudes tranquillity and combines an urban element with a French bistro, you can enjoy brunch, pastries and sweets, such as croissants.

Finally, the shop focuses on sustainability and has a water refill corner for your reusable bottle.

2. Little Bear

Little Bear

Little Bear is an exclusively vegan bakery located in Piraeus. The store offers sweets such as cakes and pastries made with fresh ingredients and modern techniques.

For savoury options, Little Bear makes pies of the day, puff pastry, and even a burger with a meat substitute. They also serve organic fair-trade coffee.

3. Little Darling

 Little Darling

This is the definition of a cute bakery, with a small window at the front filled with fresh creations.

The owner studied biology and then confectionery, and since she became vegan, she has realised that she wants to make recipes that she will primarily enjoy.

At Little Darling, the owner uses no refined sugar, white flour, or gluten products but agave, maple, rice flour, oat flour, and other raw ingredients.
