A 55-year-old German climber tragically lost his life while attempting to scale Mount Olympus, Greece's highest peak.

The climber's body was discovered by firefighters in a remote area near the "Spilios Agapitos" refuge, a popular stopping point for climbers.

The incident was reported to authorities by fellow climbers, who called the emergency number 112. A total of 14 firefighters were involved in the rescue operation, which successfully retrieved the man's body and transported it to a location accessible by a Medical Emergency Service ambulance.

The circumstances leading to the climber's death are currently under investigation.
