EOPYY Doctors to Face Retrospective Checks for Suspect Prescriptions, Says Health Minister

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced on Wednesday that doctors suspected of overprescribing medications under the National Organisation for Provision of Healthcare Services (EOPYY) will be subject to retrospective checks covering at least the last five years.

Speaking in an interview with ANT1 TV, Georgiadis emphasized that an anti-fraud system has already been implemented at EOPYY. This system uses a specific algorithm to flag suspicious prescription behaviour for immediate investigation.

The announcement follows the recent dismantling of two criminal organisations by the Financial Police Directorate, both involved in large-scale prescription fraud that defrauded EOPYY. The government is intensifying efforts to crack down on fraudulent medical practices that burden the healthcare system.
