Global Cyberattack: Social Media Accounts Hacked - Greek Fire Department Among Victims

Hackers targeted hundreds of X (formerly Twitter) accounts globally, impacting users from Alaska to the Philippines, including the Greek Fire Department.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., a message appeared on the Fire Department's X account stating that it had been compromised. The post was briefly removed but reappeared minutes later. Subsequently, the Fire Department officially confirmed the hack with a statement: "We are informing you that the Fire Department account has been hacked."

The hackers' message, appearing on numerous compromised accounts, read: "This account has been hacked. We are publishing an address in each of them to make a profit together."

This identical message surfaced on hundreds of accounts worldwide, spanning countries like China, the Philippines, Australia, Greece, France, and more.

The victims of this widespread attack include:

  • Media outlets: SKAI, People
  • Athletes: Neymar
  • Politicians: An Indian MP
  • Government entities: Accounts associated with the Commission and the Russian government
  • Musicians: Alissa White-Gluz, lead singer of Arch Enemy
  • Educational institutions: George Mason University in Virginia, USA
  • International organizations: A WHO account in Europe

These are just a few examples among many affected accounts.
