Greece Introduces New Annual Tax for Small Boats

Athens, Greece - Owners of small boats (Category B vessels) registered in Greece will now face a new annual tax. This levy applies to vessels up to 12 meters in length, impacting both private and commercial owners of various watercraft, including speedboats, dinghies, sailboats, and traditional boats.

Key Details:

  • Tax Rate:
    • Boats up to 7 meters: €100
    • Boats between 7 and 12 meters: €200
  • Exemptions: Fishing and towing boats spending less than 50% of their time at sea for transportation services are exempt.
  • Payment Deadline for 2024: Tax declaration via Greece’s Taxisnet system by September 26, with payment due by September 30.
  • Future Payment Schedule (from 2025): Tax declarations will be issued in March with payments split into two equal installments due in April and June.
  • Co-Ownership: Each owner is responsible for paying their portion of the tax based on their ownership percentage.

This new tax, introduced under Article 46 of Law 5036/2023, represents an additional cost for small boat owners in Greece.
