From the neighbourhoods of Spain and Latin America to the streets of Chalandri in northern Athens, churros—those crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside oblong doughnuts fried in hot oil, some of which end up swimming in bowls of melted chocolate—have found their own fanatic audience in Greece for years.
Three places in northern Athens, in particular, highly praise this Spanish snack, and we can provide three special places for you!
Churros Passion
The name alone shows that churros is taken seriously here. With close attention to the authentic Spanish recipe, which wants the fluffy doughnuts to melt sweetly in the mouth, you can smear them with cinnamon, sugar, and/or chocolate.
Here, on the wide sidewalk of Odos Lykourgos, churros are served either by hand (the ideal sweet conclusion after a walk to the neighbourhood eateries) or, alternatively, at the tables with pink chairs that also have the pink wall as their background with trademark hearts.
So, sit inside or outside for an endless mess in the aisle and order churros with chocolate praline, salted caramel, pistachio, Bueno or Bavarian cream.
If we feel extra daring, add extra toppings, such as truffles and crushed cookies. If you arrive early, you also accompany them with morning coffee or smoothies that arrive at our table in at least ten different flavours.

Mr Pug's Canteen
It may be that their tiny, narrow wooden bar has been famous in the street food
square of Chalandri for years, mainly for its well-prepared bao buns, but the churros, as secondary players, often easily steal the show.
And not without reason. You will easily be tempted, and in addition to the classic and favourite churros with cinnamon and sugar, you will also order some more with sugar and grated coconut or with sugar and cocoa.
Choose milk chocolate, caramel, salt, or hazelnut praline with white chocolate for a dip. Pure delight!

Mamacita-Taqueria y Cocteleria
A popular and favourite hangout in the circles of Mexican foodies, Mamacita, with the "birth" of its second store (the first is in Plaka) in the always restless square of Chalandrio, gives extra occasions for Latin American fiestas in the company of tacos, burritos, frozen cocktails and why not with inspired churros, steamed and crispy that without a doubt test our weakness to sweet temptations.
What will we try here?
Classic churros accompanied by homemade chocolate sauce and special churros that invite us to dip them in chocolate mousse, caramel, butter, Bueno or raspberry sauce.
