Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis received the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council, presented by the CEO of Pfizer, Dr. Albert Bourla. This international award is conferred by the Atlantic Council to distinguished individuals, with this year’s honorees also including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, and leading South Korean film producer Miky Lee.
Dr. Bourla expressed his honor in introducing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as the recipient of the Atlantic Council's highest award for global citizens, describing him as "a visionary champion of a new era of economic prosperity, a leader committed to his country who has earned the trust of the Greeks. A humble leader, whose re-election has shown that he keeps his political promises, while maintaining the respect of world leaders."
Upon receiving the award, the Prime Minister thanked Dr. Bourla for his "deeply flattering words" and emphasized that "this award belongs, most of all, to the people of Greece for their resilience and perseverance, and for what they have accomplished over the past years."
Prime Minister Mitsotakis highlighted Greece's achievements, stating, "We have demonstrated in Greece that one can effectively govern from the political center, be pro-growth while maintaining fiscal discipline. One can be—and to echo the words of my good friend Giorgia Meloni—a true patriot by focusing on strong defense and border protection, and at the same time be socially liberal, committed to providing high-quality public goods and reducing inequalities."
The Prime Minister noted that the re-election of his government serves as a model for defeating populism, with implications beyond Greece's borders. He also spoke about U.S.-Greek relations, emphasizing that "Greece is a stable ally of the USA and a pillar of security and stability in a turbulent region."
