TripAdvisor Discontinues Vacation Rental Bookings to Focus on Other Activities

TripAdvisor will discontinue vacation rental bookings starting November 1, 2024.

The platform sent an email to renters and hosts, emphasizing that this decision is strategic. This move aligns rental discontinuation with hotel bookings and ensures a better customer experience.

Tripadvisor acquired several vacation rental booking websites between 2008 and 2013. The sites became popular with owners due to their low fees.

The platform will continue to offer lodging and hotel bookings through third-party websites.

TripAdvisor management informed its shareholders that it will prioritize other areas of its business over the accommodation segment, which contributed a small percentage of its revenue. The company will also focus on developing the travel experiences website Viator, which it acquired ten years ago.
