Nicosia, Cyprus – The Republic of Cyprus celebrated 64 years of independence today with a resounding display of national pride, showcasing its military prowess and unwavering spirit in a grand parade through the capital city.
Under a bright autumn sky, the parade commenced at 11:00 am sharp on Iosif X Iosif Avenue, with President Nikos Christodoulidis receiving the salute. He was joined by Greek President Katerina Sakelaropoulou, signifying the strong bond between the two nations.
The meticulously coordinated procession captivated onlookers, featuring a powerful display of motorized units from the Cyprus National Guard, highlighting their modern military equipment. The rhythmic march of the pedestrian units, comprising personnel from the National Guard, Police, Fire Service, Civil Defense, Forestry Department, and Health Services, underscored the nation's commitment to security and well-being.
Adding a breathtaking dimension to the spectacle, a contingent of aircraft from the National Guard soared overhead, leaving a trail of vibrant smoke against the clear blue canvas. In a show of international solidarity, a contingent from the United Kingdom's air force also participated in the flypast, much to the delight of the gathered crowds.
