Greece to Establish Complete Land Registry by 2025, Says Prime Minister Mitsotakis

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Tuesday that Greece will finally establish a complete land registry by 2025, marking a significant milestone in modernising the country's property management system.

The announcement came during the discussion of a bill by the Ministry of Digital Governance.

Mitsotakis highlighted that Greece has been the only European nation without a full land registry, a situation that has long complicated property rights and land use. “By 2025, Greece will have a fully functional cadastre—an accurate map that clearly defines public and private real estate, including forests and beaches,” the prime minister said.

The initiative is expected to end uncertainties over land ownership and bring transparency to property transactions, facilitating both individual development and broader economic growth. The cadastre will define what belongs to the state and what belongs to citizens, ensuring clear rules and eliminating loopholes that have allowed for arbitrary claims and legal disputes.
