Greek National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias attended a key meeting in Venice on Monday with defense ministers from the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (ADRION). The gathering, hosted at the Institute of Military and Naval Studies, focused on enhancing regional cooperation and improving naval interoperability to tackle shared security challenges in the region. Greece, holding the presidency of the initiative until May 2025, is leading efforts to bolster defense collaboration among Adriatic and Ionian nations.

Defence ministers from several other countries are also attending, including Guido Crosetto of Italy, Marjan Šarec of Slovenia, Ivan Anušić of Croatia, Dragan Krapović of Montenegro, and Pirro Vengu of Albania.
Greece currently holds the presidency of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative, a position it assumed in June 2024 and will maintain until May 2025. The initiative aims to enhance regional collaboration, particularly focusing on improving the interoperability of the member states' navies to address shared security concerns effectively.
The meeting provides a platform for discussing strategies to strengthen defense ties among the countries bordering the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, highlighting the ongoing commitment to maintaining security and stability in the region.
