Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has urged for a reduction in hostilities in the Middle East amid escalating tensions. During his weekly government briefing, he emphasized that Greece remains "on high alert at all levels."
“This week has been notably impacted by the significant escalation in the Middle East, heightening threats to regional stability and security,” Mitsotakis remarked. “The situation in Lebanon has worsened considerably, and we have observed a substantial attack by Iran on Israel, an event that Greece condemns in the strongest terms.”
He reiterated Greece’s support for Israel and its right to security, a right that was severely challenged a year ago by a Hamas attack that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Israeli citizens.
Mitsotakis also extended his condolences for Ionas Karussis, a Greek-Israeli national, who was killed on Tuesday during a terrorist attack in Jaffa, Tel Aviv.
