The first round of elections for the leadership of PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) concluded on Sunday at 7:00 PM, with a strong turnout of 300,735 party members and supporters casting their votes by 8:00 PM.
The PASOK elections committee (EDEKAP) confirmed that it would not extend the voting hours, although voting centres with long lines were permitted to accept ballots from those waiting.
With 928 voting centres across the country, final results were anticipated late Sunday night. As of the preliminary count, which included results from 586 voting centers accounting for 48% of the total votes, incumbent leader Nikos Androulakis emerged as the frontrunner. He is set to face Athens Mayor Haris Doukas in a second round next Sunday, as both candidates vie for the party's leadership.
The initial tally revealed the following results based on 100% integration and a total of 302,822 votes cast:
- Nikos Androulakis: 29.64% (89,200 votes)
- Haris Doukas: 21.41% (64,490 votes)
- Pavlos Geroulanos: 21.12% (63,632 votes)
- Anna Diamantopoulou: 19.52% (58,899 votes)
- Michalis Katrinis: 6.03% (18,163 votes)
- Nadia Giannakopoulou: 2.29% (6,890 votes)
The voting results indicate a competitive race for the leadership of PASOK, with Androulakis and Doukas emerging as the top contenders heading into the decisive second round.
