The Amiral Ronarc’h, the pioneering FDI Belharra frigate constructed for the French Navy, has embarked on its sea trials, setting the stage for the Greek FDI Belharra frigate, Kimon.
Upon the completion of the French frigate's trials, the Greek F-601 Kimon, the first of four Greek FDI Belharra frigates, is slated to begin its sea trials, anticipated to commence in 2024.
To finalize the Amiral Ronarc’h's sea trials, a minimum of ten voyages is required, during which a series of tests will be conducted.
Serving as the prototype FDI, the French frigate is a template for future constructions, including the four planned for Greece. Reports indicate that Greek Navy officers will be aboard to closely monitor the tests.
According to the projected timeline, the Kimon is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2025, followed by the F-602 Nearchos by year's end. The F-603 Formion is projected for delivery a year later. Additionally, it was recently announced that Greece is in negotiations to acquire a fourth FDI frigate.
