The delicious chickpeas are still eaten on Sundays after church. The great tradition in pottery and cooking are kept alive, and see Exambela, the birthplace of chef Nikos Tselementes, moderniser of Greek cuisine.

If you are an extreme person, do not choose the island. But if it’s these qualities you’re looking for, then there are plenty of reasons to holiday in Sifnos.
