Baldock’s Family Releases Statement as Police Investigate Drowning

Athens, Greece – The family of late footballer George Baldock has released a heartbreaking statement following his tragic drowning. Baldock was found dead in the swimming pool of his luxury apartment in Glyfada, Athens.

Greek police investigating the circumstances of George Baldock’s death said there was no suggestion of foul play.

Police are investigating the incident and have recovered CCTV footage showing Baldock swimming in the pool shortly before his death. The footage shows him entering the water and swimming vigorously before suddenly stopping and sinking.

Initial autopsy results confirmed the likely cause of death as “microscopically foamy microbubbles” had formed on the footballer – an indication of drowning.  

Forensic scientists who conducted the autopsy on Baldock at Athens’ University Hospital on Thursday said he was dead for five hours before he was discovered.

The family’s touching statement ended with them saying: “As a family it has been incredibly touching, but equally so very difficult to read the huge number of tributes written by those that knew George and from those whose life he touched.

“It was impossible not to love him. We ask that you please continue to respect our privacy at this devastating time as we begin to process our grief.”

Cops said it would be ” several weeks, if not months” before the full autopsy and toxicology results were released.

Baldock’s family revealed that he was due to fly home for his son’s first birthday but was tragically taken too soon. They described him as a “special father, fiancé, son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate, and person” whose infectious personality brought joy to those who knew him.

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time as they grieve their loss. The police are confident that there is no foul play involved in Baldock’s death and are continuing their investigation.
