The initiative, announced by Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Sofia Zacharaki, represents a key component of the government's broader strategy to tackle social housing shortages. "Reducing inequalities and supporting vulnerable households are top priorities," stated Zacharaki, emphasizing a commitment of nearly €5 billion by 2025 towards social housing initiatives.
This specific program, a joint effort between the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and the Municipality of Athens, has secured €1,032,114 in funding from the Greece 2.0 National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The funds will subsidize the renovation of 70 homes, with a maximum subsidy of €10,055 per property. In exchange for the financial assistance, participating landlords must commit to renting their renovated properties for a minimum of four years.
