Cold Air Masses to Bring Temperature Drop Across Greece

After a warm start to the week, Greece will experience a significant temperature dip as cold air masses from Eastern Europe move in starting Thursday, October 17th.

While the weather remains sunny for now, colder conditions are set to bring temperatures below typical seasonal levels, according to forecasts.

Warm Start to the Week
On Monday, October 14th, temperatures will be unseasonably warm, with highs reaching 28°C in Attica and 26°C in Thessaloniki. Sunshine will dominate the weather across the country. According to Thodoris Kolydas, director of the EMF, this warmth is expected to give way to cooler air later in the week. “We are forecasted to experience a sustained drop in temperatures, with values slightly below the seasonal norm,” Kolydas said.

Cold Air Masses Expected from Thursday
From Thursday, an anticyclone in the Aegean Sea will bring strong north winds, reaching up to 8 Beaufort in some areas, creating a dry atmosphere without rainfall. Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis explained that these conditions will usher in colder air from Eastern Europe, bringing temperatures down to 20-23°C, below the usual levels for mid-October.

Forecast for Monday, October 14th

- Attica: Clear skies, north-northeasterly winds at 3-4 Beaufort, temperatures ranging from 18°C to 28°C.
- Thessaloniki: Variable light winds, temperatures between 14°C and 24°C.
- Macedonia and Thrace: Mostly clear, light winds, temperatures from 13°C to 25°C, slightly cooler in western Macedonia.
- Ionian Islands and Western Greece: Northwestern winds at 3-4 Beaufort, highs of 28°C, slightly lower in Epirus.
- Cyclades and Crete: Light clouds, possible light rain in Crete later in the day, north winds up to 6 Beaufort, temperatures around 27-28°C in Crete.
- Aegean Islands and Dodecanese: Clear skies, winds reaching 6 Beaufort, temperatures ranging from 19°C to 28°C, cooler in northern areas.

As cold air moves in later this week, residents should expect a noticeable drop in temperatures, signaling the start of cooler autumn weather across Greece.
