Gimlet named Australia’s Wine List of the Year
Melbourne's Gimlet at Cavendish House has been crowned Australia's Wine List of the Year for 2024, marking the first Victorian win in three years. The prestigious award was announced at Sydney's 31st annual Australia's Wine List of the Year Awards ceremony.
Judges praised Gimlet's exceptional wine list for its breadth, balance, and originality. It was also recognized as Best Wine List Victoria, Australia's Best Restaurant Wine List – City, and received the Sommeliers' Choice Award. The venue's sommelier, Anthony Pieri, was honoured with the Judy Hirst Award for his outstanding contribution to the winning list.
Other finalists for the top prize included Agnes Restaurant in Brisbane and Gibney in Perth. Agnes was commended for its diverse by-the-glass selection, while Gibney, a recent opening, impressed judges with its luxurious range of international and local wines.
In addition to the national winner, awards were presented to Monopole (NSW), The Salopian Inn (SA), Molto Wine Bar and Cellars Hobart (TAS), and Capitol Bar & Grill (ACT) as the best wine lists in their respective states. NSW had a strong showing, claiming 15 awards in total.
Peter Forrestal, Chairman of Judges, highlighted Australia's high standard of wine lists. He noted the increasing number of well-curated lists, knowledgeable sommeliers, and exceptional wines from Australian and international regions.
