Heating Oil Availability Begins in Greece with Lower Prices

The availability of heating oil for the winter season starts today in Greece, with prices expected to be lower than those of the same period last year, according to market estimates.

Speaking to CNN Greece, Michalis Kyousis, president of the Federation of Petrol Dealers of Greece, stated that prices in major urban centres are projected to range between 1.16 and 1.19 euros per litre. These prices are slightly adjusted from earlier forecasts made in September, due in part to escalating tensions in the Middle East. Despite this, prices are still expected to be lower than last year’s initial rates.

Maria Zaga, president of the Association of Attica’s Petrol Dealers, confirmed that prices in the Attica region will likely range from 1.16 to 1.20 euros per litre, significantly lower than last year’s opening prices of 1.38 to 1.40 euros per litre. She noted that mild winter conditions last year left many apartment buildings with empty fuel tanks, which were not refilled at the end of the season.

However, demand for heating oil is expected to remain low initially, as unseasonably high temperatures persist across the country. Zaga highlighted that early orders are mainly coming from single-family homes in the northern and eastern suburbs of Attica, where residents traditionally place the first orders each year.

According to the Liquid Fuel Price Observatory, as of 13 October, prices for other fuels in Greece average 1.783 euros per litre for unleaded petrol, 1.550 euros per litre for diesel, and 0.904 euros per litre for LPG.
