Greek Women Farmers Make Significant Impact in Agriculture, Minister Highlights

On the occasion of International Day of Rural Women, Minister of Rural Development and Food Kostas Tsiaras took to social media to emphasize the vital role of Greek women in agriculture. He noted that women farmers comprise 46.18% of the country’s agricultural sector, translating to approximately 36% of Greece's total declared arable land.

According to data from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, 151,055 of Greece's 328,121 registered professional farmers are women. In 2024, women submitted 296,683 of 642,441 final applications to the Integrated Administration and Control System, representing 46.18% of the total.

Women also play a crucial role in various financial support programs within the ministry. In the Organic Farming Scheme, 34.36% of the 44,409 beneficiaries are women, totalling 15,257. Additionally, in the "Young Farmers" program, women account for 23.12% of the 44,866 beneficiaries, amounting to 10,384. In the Improvement Plans, 5,051 women participate, making up 26.11% of the 19,342 beneficiaries.

The data shows that 302,312 women benefit from initiatives in the Rural Development Program, and there are 13 active women's cooperatives in Greece. Kostas Tsiaras, the Minister of Rural Development and Food, recently emphasized the important role of Greek women in agriculture on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women.
