The New South Wales Government is thrilled to announce the arrival of Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, to Sydney. This marks their first official visit to Australia this month. Residents of NSW are invited to join in the festivities.
Premier Chris Minns has extended a warm invitation to the public to gather at the iconic Sydney Opera House on Tuesday, 22 October, where Their Majesties will attend a special event, culminating in a spectacular Fleet Review and a flyover by the Australian Defence Force over Sydney Harbour.
The public is encouraged to join the celebrations at the Opera House Forecourt at 4:20 PM, where attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet The King and Queen. Following the event, Their Majesties, alongside the Governor-General and military leaders, will oversee a Fleet Review featuring His Majesty’s Australian Ships—Hobart, Warramunga, Arunta, Gascoyne, and Yarra—anchored in the Harbour.
In a celebration of regional NSW, Their Majesties will also participate in a community BBQ in Parramatta, hosted by the Premier. This event will highlight the cultural richness of modern Australia, particularly in Western Sydney. Notable guests will include community leaders, volunteers, and outstanding individuals recognized for their contributions. The BBQ will showcase local produce, with support from the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW.
During His Majesty's visit, he will meet the current Australians of the Year, Professor Georgina Long AO and Professor Richard Scolyer AO, to learn about their groundbreaking work in cancer research and treatment.
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla will visit a local library, engaging with students involved in writing workshops, esteemed authors, and winners of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.
This marks King Charles III's first visit to Australia as Monarch. Following their time in Australia, Their Majesties will continue to Samoa and participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
It is noteworthy that King Charles III has Greek ancestry through his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was born into the Greek and Danish royal families, adding to the rich tapestry of the British monarchy’s heritage.
