The agreement, initially signed on November 3, 2023, in Beijing by Greek Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras, was part of a broader delegation visit led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The deal is expected to enhance cooperation between Greece and China, especially in the fields of aviation and transport. Following the ratification, Staikouras emphasised the importance of the agreement, stating that it “significantly opens Greece’s developmental prospects while strengthening its global presence, both as a country and as a partner within the European Union.”
The agreement aims to modernise the institutional and business frameworks governing aviation services between the two countries. It incorporates updated technological and economic standards, in line with international regulations and the 2019 EU-China horizontal aviation agreement, further integrating Greece into global aviation networks.
The accord is seen as a strategic move for Greece, potentially boosting its role as a major hub for international travel and commerce, with benefits for both the tourism and business sectors.
