A British teenager has reported being raped by another UK national while she was asleep in her hotel room during a holiday in Kavos, Corfu.
The 18-year-old girl told Greek authorities that the incident took place while she was staying at a hotel in the popular tourist destination on the island’s southern coast.
According to her statement, she awoke to find the alleged attacker, also an 18-year-old Brit, assaulting her. She claimed that when confronted, he appeared confused and apologised, stating he didn’t know what was happening. The victim recorded part of this conversation and presented it to Greek police when she reported the incident last Wednesday.
Following her report, Greek authorities charged the alleged attacker with rape. However, the victim is also facing accusations of violating Greek privacy laws due to her recording of the conversation without consent.
This incident in Corfu echoes a similar case earlier this year, when an 18-year-old American woman was arrested in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old man. The man claimed he was led to an abandoned house while intoxicated and assaulted. The suspect in that case has denied the allegations, and an investigation remains ongoing.
The Corfu case is under further investigation, with both parties expected to face legal scrutiny in the coming weeks.
