The Santorini Hoteliers Association has donated an ambulance to the National Emergency Care Center (EKAV) to improve medical services on the island. This initiative highlights the center's crucial role in supporting both residents and visitors. The handover occurred during the association's annual assembly, where members also discussed strategies to enhance Santorini's tourism and hospitality. The donation comes at a time when many Greek islands face significant medical service challenges, particularly during the busy summer months.
The association stated that the ambulance would soon be fully equipped to serve residents and visitors, highlighting the centre's essential role in healthcare on the island.
The vehicle handover occurred during the SHA's annual assembly, where discussions focused on initiatives to promote Santorini's tourism and improve hospitality.
During the delivery, EKAV board members expressed gratitude to Antonis Iliopoulos, the association's former management and president, for leading the effort to secure the ambulance.
It is important to note that many Greek islands struggle with medical service challenges, particularly during the summer months when demand surges. This leads to issues like understaffing and shortages of vehicles and medical supplies.
