A tourist in Platanias, near Chania on the island of Crete, disregarded warnings and ventured into the sea despite hazardous conditions. Ignoring surfers' alerts about the dangerous weather, he not only endangered himself but also posed a risk to those around him.

Soon after entering the water, the tourist found himself in peril, unable to return to shore due to the strong waves.

Several surfers at the beach acted quickly, diving into the water to rescue the man and bring him back safely to the shore, according to local news outlet flashnews.gr.

Local sources noted that this is not an isolated incident; surfers have frequently been involved in rescuing swimmers in distress in the Chania area. These rescues occur often, both during the summer and post-lifeguard season, which begins in October when lifeguards are no longer present at the beaches.

Notably, there have been six rescues in the Stalos and Platanias areas over the past 4-5 days alone.
