On Monday, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis represented the government at the school and military parades in the northeastern city of Alexandroupolis, celebrating the October 28 national holiday.
In his statement following the parade, Gerapetritis emphasized that he had come to the city and the remote border region of Evros to convey a message of "spiritual uplift and national pride."
"Our history is rich with acts of heroism, where Greeks set aside their personal fates to serve a higher ideal. From Leonidas' 'Molon labe' to the defiant spirit of the Souliotes and the collective 'No' of October 28, 1940, this Greek spirit serves as our beacon and our compass," he remarked.
