Minister Gerapetritis Announces Recruitment of 150 New Border Guards in Evros

Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis announced the recruitment of 150 new border guards during his visit to Evros, where he represented the government at the October 28 celebrations. This new hiring will supplement the 450 border guards already recruited in the past two years. Gerapetritis emphasized the importance of strengthening the second line of defense and ensuring that local communities feel secure. He praised the rapid implementation of the fence project, which he described as 100% effective in guarding national and European borders. He stressed the need for coordination among Greek police, the military, and border guards, reiterating the state’s commitment to enhancing deterrent capabilities in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, announced the recruitment of 150 new border guards to be added to the 450 already hired in the past two years. This announcement was made during his visit to Evros for the October 28 celebrations, representing the government.

Mr Gerapetritis visited the border fence and stated that the new guards would bolster the second line of defence. He emphasized, "The State will remain firmly committed to enhancing the deterrent capabilities here so that the local community, our citizens in Evros, feel secure and know that the government is always by their side."

"Today, I had the great honour and pleasure to be in Evros, particularly at the fence project the Greek state implemented in record time. It is 100% effective in securing our national and European borders, supported by the tremendous effort of the personnel working here daily," said Mr Gerapetritis.

He further noted, "Coordination among all services of the Greek police, military, and border guards is always essential. I want to reiterate that the State will continue strongly supporting enhancing deterrent capabilities in this region so that the local community and our citizens in Evros always feel that the government is by their side. For this reason, 150 additional border guards will be added to the 450 already hired in the last two years, and this will happen in the coming days."

In conclusion, the Foreign Minister stated, "We must ensure security in the country, but also for people to feel safe and proud of their homeland, which will always stand by them."
