The military parade on October 28, Oxi Day, marks the anniversary of Thessaloniki's liberation from the Ottoman Empire and the feast of St. Demetrius, the city's patron saint.
Military and civil forces paraded at 11:00 on Monday on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue, with National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias representing the government and Cyprus Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas attending.
Earlier, President Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath at the 3rd Army Corps Memorial. The October 28 holiday commemorates Greece's victorious war against Italian forces in 1940, at the start of WWII.
