Dele Alli and Dean Henderson were among the mourners at the funeral of George Baldock, the former Sheffield United defender who tragically passed away on October 9, found unresponsive in his swimming pool at his Athens home.
The service occurred in Baldock’s hometown of Buckinghamshire and was attended by many from his football career, including his former manager, Chris Wilder and teammates like Oli McBurnie.
Henderson, who played alongside Baldock during his loan at Sheffield United, reflected on their time together, calling him a “great teammate, great player, and a great family man.” Earlier this month, he also paid tribute to Baldock on the touchline during England’s Nations League game against Greece.
Baldock, who has Greek heritage through his grandmother, made his mark in football with over 200 appearances for Sheffield United from 2017 to 2024. He recently joined Panathinaikos and played four matches this season, the last being against Olympiacos on October 6.
His fiancée Annabel and their son Brody were in the hearts and minds of many during the service. Alli shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, saying it was an “honour to know” Baldock and expressed deep sorrow for his family.
Baldock’s legacy as a dedicated player and loving family man will be remembered by all who know him.
