On a sunny day in Ikaria, locals embrace a lifestyle rich in healthful practices, one of which is a daily dose of honey.
One of those experts, Diane Kochilas, who lives on the island, says that raw honey could be contributing to the longer lives of Ikaria’s residents.
While research on honey’s impact on sexual health is limited, several studies highlight its benefits in other areas. A 2021 BMJ article found that honey outperformed standard treatments for alleviating symptoms of upper respiratory infections, offering a readily available and cost-effective alternative to antibiotics. It suggested that honey could play a role in combating antimicrobial resistance, although more rigorous trials are needed.
A 2020 study examining honey’s effectiveness against colds and flu concluded that it outperformed usual care in reducing cough frequency and severity. However, the researchers noted that due to the variety of honey formulations, they couldn’t recommend a specific dosage or method of consumption.
Incorporating honey into your daily routine might be a sweet step toward better health!
